Στα πλαίσια της έκθεσης «στης Μαρουδιάς» στο αρχοντικό του Χατζηγεωργάκη Κορνέσιου, οι Νικολέττα Βερύκιου, Εύα Καλομοίρη και Έλενα Παυλίδου υποστασιοποιήσαν στις 2 Νοεμβρίου 2012 το βράδυ, ιστορίες και μνήμες που το σπίτι της Μαρουδιάς δεν αφηγήθηκε. Τοποθετώντας στο επίκεντρο τις γυναίκες που εργάζονταν στο σπίτι, δηλαδή το γυναικείο υπηρετικό προσωπικό της αρχόντισσας Μαρουδιάς, συζύγου του Χατζηγεωργάκη Κορνέσιου, η δομή της παράστασης αναζητείται στις σχέσεις εξουσίας μέσα στον ιδιωτικό χώρο. Καθόσον, όμως, η εξουσία που προκύπτει στον συγκεκριμένο χώρο του αρχοντικού και μουσείου είναι δημόσια, οι γυναίκες που υπηρέτησαν τη Μαρουδιά είτε παρακολουθούν είτε συμμετέχουν είτε ζουν τη ζωή της Μαρουδιάς, καθίστανται τα οχήματα ενός στοχασμού για τις ίδιες ακόμα αδιανόητου. Από τον ιστορικό ρόλο του κάποτε ιδιοκτήτη του αρχοντικού και από τη μουσειακή σημασία του χώρου σήμερα, προκύπτουν πρακτικές ηγεμονίας, ταξικά χάσματα και πολιτικές του εαυτού υπέρ της γυναικείας χειραφέτησης που διατρέχουν την κυπριακή κοινωνία, φτάνοντας στον χώρο-μουσείο ως δοκιμή παράστασης. Η περιπλάνηση των υπηρετριών στον χώρο-μουσείο αντιπαραθέτει έτσι δύο εποχές και δύο χώρους. Στο σπίτι και στο μουσείο δύο διαφορετικών εποχών, η κυπριακή ταυτότητα εγγράφεται «στης Μαρουδιάς» ως διακύβευση χειραφέτησης.

Η περφόρμανς στης Μαρουδιάς θα δοθεί στο αρχοντικό του Χατζηγεωργάκη Κορνέσιου στις 2 Νοεμβρίου στις 20:30

at Maroudia’s

performance

As part of the exhibition “At Maroudia’s” Nikoletta Verykiou, Eva Kalomoiri and Elena Pavlidou substantiated, on the evening of the 2^nd of November 2012 in the mansion of Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios, stories and memories that Maroudia’s home has not yet recounted. Placing the focus on the women who worked in the home, thus the female servants of the lady of the house Maroudia (the wife of Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios) the structure of the performance is sought through the power relations depicted within the private, domestic space. However, since the power structures that are presented in the space of the mansion and now museum are public in nature, the women who served the lady of the house, and who at times observe, participate, or live Maroudia’s life, are rendered as entities of reflection. The historical role of the once owner of the mansion and the existence of the museum within this space today, lead to reflection on hegemonic practices, class differences and political empowerment of women; women who negotiate the Cypriot society of today and reach the museum-space through an experimental performance. As the servants wander through the dual space of this museum-home, the then and the now, two different times are illuminated and juxtaposed within the chronotope of the performance. In this home that is now a museum two different time periods, document the Cypriot identity through the performance “at Maroudias” as a matter of emancipation.
